About Cornwall Dance and Drama

Juliet has over 27 years experience in the dance and fitness industry. After teaching both children and adults in Sweden, Juliet returned to Cornwall in 1987 as proprietor of Truro based ‘Cornwall Dance Centre’.
Now in partnership with Stephanie Johnson, Cornwall Dance and Drama has gone from strength to strength offering performance classes in DANCE (jazz, street, stage, hip-hop, junior tap), DRAMA, and SINGING.
Classes held in Truro and Newquay. Click - timetable for details. Students from aged 6 years to adults aged 60 plus receive a friendly welcome at Juliet’s dance and exercise classes. Juliet is also a director of Impact Model Agency and runs regular ‘Model School’ classes. These classes are great for confidence building and include training in essential life skills that work well for anyone considering a profession within the performance or model industry. Click – Model School.

Stephanie runs the drama / musical theatre classes. A real triple threat, she is an actress, singer and dancer with a London Academy of Dramatic Art Training in Drama and ISTD qualifications in dance. Stephanie has thirteen years experience in theatre, many of which in top West End musicals, such as Cats, Grease and Chicago. She has worked with some of Britains leading directors and choreographers such as Arlene Phillips of strictly come dancing fame, Cameron Mackintosh, Trevor Nunn and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.
She completed a two-year teacher-training course, which gave her a deep insight into child development and the importance of the performing arts in their lives.Stephanie has taught the LAMDA syllabus in schools, run dance and drama workshops, and directed shows up and down the country.
She is the principle of Cornwall Dance and Drama alongside Juliet Matthews.

Lisa assists Juliet and Stephanie as a dance teacher at our Truro and Newquay classes, teaching ‘Hip-Hop’, ‘Street’ and Stage Dance.
Lisa started dancing with the BBO (British Ballet Organisation) from the age of 2 years old studying Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Contemporary achieving honours and highly recommended in exams. She gained a scholarship with BBO London when she was 12years old and spent several years training with top teachers and performing around the country. Recent Training : IDTA Teaching Freestyle Qualification.
Lisa has choreographed for NAOS Productions, danced in the musical show ‘Gypsy’, and has performed with Wayne Sleep at the HFC, working with the Hiss and Boo Company. She currently choreographs and runs a small dance troupe, and also sings and dances in a professional cabaret act.

Lisa attended the Urdang Academy of Dance in London from the age of 14 to 16 and then went to train professionally at the Northern Ballet School in Manchester where she graduated 3 years later.
For over eight year she danced professionally working all over Europe, South Africa and America. Lisa has danced, choreographed and produced numerous shows for the DGM dancers on the MSC cruise liners. TV credits include backing dancer on ITV’s Stars In Your Eyes, Top of Pops 2 and the BBC Children in Need 2000.
